Support – Support & Guidance
Students usually stay with the same Progress Coach throughout their time at College. Progress groups meet weekly and Progress Coaches also spend time with students on an individual basis.
Progress Coaches help students in many ways, including:
- Helping students settle into College life
- Giving advice on subject choices
- Discussing approaches to successful study
- Reviewing overall progress
- Being the main contact with parents/carers
- Helping with university and job applications
- Supporting students at times of personal difficulty
Subject staff offer advice on how to succeed and additional help is available through subject tutorials. Subject Consultation Evenings are available, where subject staff discuss progress with students.
The Careers Library is well-stocked and up to date, with information accessible online. A specialist Connexions careers adviser is available through general drop-in sessions, or by individual interviews.
The College hosts an annual Careers Convention. Here students can discuss careers with professionals from large national and local companies, organisations and services.
Academic Coaches also help students adjust to the extra demands of study at College. Individual help is available for students who are finding difficulties, for example with study skills, time management or preparation for examinations.
The work of the College with Villiers Park has enabled students to gain from teaching staff developing their practice in the classroom. This affords the opportunity to inspire excellence through an innovative range of approaches to teaching and learning, ultimately strongly enhancing the experience received by the students and helping to prepare them for the rigours of Higher Education, should they choose that route.Back to top ▲
