Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth Ist College is an independent self-governing sixth form college within the further education sector. Like the general further education colleges, the sixth form colleges were taken out of the schools sector by the Further and Higher Education Act of 1992. College funding for educating its 16-19 year-old students derives from the Government via the Young People's Learning Agency.

The governing body of the College, known as the Corporation, consists of 20 members. It contains representatives of staff, students and people engaged in business, the professions and other occupations. The Principal of the College is also a member ex-officio. The names of current members of the Corporation are listed here. If you wish to contact them, please do so through their Clerk, Peter Butcher [ Tel. (0116 223 1905/6) ].

quote background
'I applied to QE because of the reputation it has and because most of my friends were coming here. It’s one of the best colleges and I wanted to do well. The teachers are always there to help you and to support you if you don’t understand something. You can have extra tutorials, so if you don’t understand something you can ask for extra help. This has helped with some of the more difficult topics.'
