| A BEACON INVITATION |
| We do hope that you find what is on the College's Beacon website both interesting and informative, and that you are able to find a few minutes to look at what is offered here. The site contains Beacon details from a number of curriculum areas and whole-college ~ or whole-school ~ issues like student support and quality assurance. However, we would like to begin by making a brief reference to the College's very particular approach to its Beacon work. |
| The College takes an unusual approach to its Beacon work. Typically, most activity of this sort has sought a national audience and largely confined itself to colleges in the incorporated sector. Of course we are very happy to have Beacon enquiries from that audience, but the main thrust of our approach is different, for our primary intention is to do what we can in order to contribute to the transformation and improvement in education that is underway in Leicester and Leicestershire. |
| This is an explicit commitment to learners in the City of Leicester and its region. |
In the College's first Beacon year the primary activity was the building of collaborative structures to support the first round of post-Area-Wide Inspection planning. Last year the focus shifted to providing subject-based support and whole institution approaches to student support and quality assurance. |
| The 2005-6 Beacon programme continues with these themes, but in addition has a new emphasis on how individual learners succeed and a sharpened focus on how existing collaborative projects can be sustained. |
| |
| The College is pleased to acknowledge the acceptance and the financial support of this approach from the Local Learning and Skills Council. |
| |
| So, on behalf of the Beacon team at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College may we extend this invitation to you and your colleagues. We look forward to helping make a difference. |
| Best wishes, |
